Effective Self-Advocacy

1 comment:

  1. Self advocacy is speaking up for yourself. It is letting people know how your needs can be better met. Often people get involved in self advocacy because they are directly affected by something in a negative way and see how people would benefit if things were changed. Until recently it was a concept used more for adults, but increasingly it is recognized as a skill teens need to develop too.

The most important thing you need to know about self advocacy is that you are your greatest advocate. (Excerpt from Self Advocacy Tool Kit)

You have to adapt to living with a muscle wasting condition, knowing your strengths and needs and knowing your legal rights and responsibilities which will help you in the long run.
